Dowds completed extensive refurbishment and development M&E works on the prestigious Aberdeen Art Gallery. This is one of the Aberdeen’s finest granite buildings, which underwent a landmark transformation between 2015 and 2019.
With more treasures on display and vastly enhanced visitor facilities, the Gallery has been revitalised and re-imagined. The A-listed building project involved 21 new exhibition galleries and education spaces from previously unused spaces, upgrade of all the building services and environmental performance, and improved art handling, storage, back of house and study facilities. Aberdeen Art Gallery is an A-listed building.
Aberdeen Art Gallery was named Scotland’s ‘Building of the Year’ in 2021 following its recent £36.4M redevelopment.
This was a highly complex building from a MEP perspective, which included HVAC package consisting of humidification control within the galleries. Due to the need for specialist environmental close control, local void mounted humidifier units were installed to provide humidification control for naturally ventilated galleries.
These units are key to the successful operation of the gallery in line with the Gallery’s Environmental Monitoring System (EMS). We also worked closely with the clients third party fit out contractor DKAV for the interactive exhibits, streaming media services and digital projection.
