While we celebrated our award wins yesterday, today we turn the spotlight to an exceptional individual – Brian Cunning – who received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the NI Electrical Awards 2025.

Brian joined Dowds in 2002 and quickly became a key player, earning the role of Contracts Director within just two years. His leadership journey didn’t stop there – progressing to Energy Solutions Director, where he led the creation of a new, future-focused service offering that firmly positioned Dowds at the forefront of sustainable innovation.

Today, Brian serves as Group Director of Innovation & Strategic Initiatives, a role that perfectly reflects his visionary mindset and relentless commitment to pushing boundaries.

Brian’s been a steady, guiding force behind some of our most complex and high-impact projects, from major hospital MEP installations to cutting-edge Finnebrogue Artisan facilities. His ability to lead with calm determination, deep technical expertise, and unwavering dedication has earned him the respect and trust of everyone he works with

But Brian’s legacy goes beyond project delivery. He’s a natural mentor, shaping the careers of countless colleagues and leading with humility, integrity, always putting the team first and never seeking recognition for himself.

One of his most visionary contributions was the launch of Dowds Energy Solutions. True to Brian’s adventurous spirit, he announced the launch from the summit of Mont Blanc- perfectly capturing his energy and commitment to driving Dowds forward in bold and unexpected ways

From reaching Everest Base Camp to mark Dowds’ 40th anniversary, to attempting the Matterhorn, Brian channels his love of the outdoors into inspiring charity challenges, always giving back and inspiring others.

A truly well-deserved recognition for someone who has played such a pivotal role in our journey.
